Have you all seen Mobinil’s last Ad that’s been airing on the national and cable TV?
Their ad campaign is based on the fact that there are 20 million Egyptians now using Mobinil’s network. They take a step further to enumerate things that 20 million Egyptians can do.
One of their claims is that 20 million Egyptians can form a complete circle holding hand to hand along the equator of the Earth. That cannot be farther from that truth. The average arm span of a grown man is like what; 1.5 meters? By applying simple mathematics one can conclude that the circumstance of a circle formed by 20 million Egyptians is 30 million meters (or 30,000 KM).
The length of the Equator is 40,075 KM. So there you have it ladies and gents False Advertisment in it purest forms
I am pretty certain that the average Egyptian arm span is more than 150 cm or do you have a reference for that?
Well, you are right. The arm span is almost equal to the person’s height. So the right figure would be around 170-175 cm.
Having the post tagged under Comedy and Funny i wouldn’t think that some one would take it that seriously. However that still doesn’t change a thing. 20 million people wouldn’t make a complete circle around the earth if they had an arm span of 2 meters ( they’d come 75 km short)

Well, arm span equals height. This is something Leanardo Da Vinci discovered and is shown in the well known drawing called the Vitruvian man.
A large percentage of Egyptians are children. This is because we are a young population, several years ago 50% of the population was under the age of 15. Now this probably changed and there are more grown ups now, but still there is a considerable percentage of young people.
I liked that you double checked their claims. If instead the human chain around the world started from Cairo. Instead of sending people to the Equator, which is going to be very costly. We start the chain from here and the circumference of the Earth at 30 degrees North is for sure less than at the Equator.

Very interesting theory ya Mostafa i never thought of it that way. However, come to think of it, is that really a complete circle arnd the earth? This means that if you shift the circle high or low enough towards the poles you can reduce the number of people to what ever you want. The Circle should pass the center of the earth as far as i am concerned.
